How to Clean a Cat Water Fountain Without Ruining the Pump

• Warm water
• A soft brush or sponge
• A cotton swab for tight spots around the pump

Do not use strong household cleaners or dish soap with heavy fragrance. Cats avoid water that smells like cleaning products, even after thorough rinsing.

Weekly Routine

1. Unplug the fountain
2. Empty and rinse the bowl
3. Remove any hair around the pump intake using a cotton swab
4. Rinse the pump under warm water
5. Refill to the max line and plug back in

Monthly Deep Clean

1. Disassemble all parts
2. Wash each part with warm water and a soft brush
3. Check the filter — replace if it has been 2–4 weeks or looks clogged

Two Rules That Protect the Pump
